After all, I love scrap booking but the reason I chose Stampin' Up! over some of the other companies is that I LOVE bumpy scrapping. Brads and buttons-ribbon, eyelets and all sorts of other goodies. So why would I want a program that doesn't have that at all? So I played with it and have come to love it. I use it to my things for my blog and email......those aren't bumpy. I also use it to try out layouts for pages and cards. It sure saves me a lot of time and paper. After I've gotten my ideas ready, then I can go to paper. MDS is perfect for making your own family Christmas cards or that one of a kind gift. This past year, I made a small book. I used my pictures and added a bumpy look to some of the pages. I was able to add journaling and a title in different fonts and it looked good. Then I sent it out to be printed and sent directly to the person it was intended for. She loves it. The work came from my heart but didn't take as much time or money as a handmade scrapbook. Yet, I was happy with it and so was she. So go over to mydigitalstudio.net and get your free trial copy. Sale A Bration Drawing

I've been having a fine time with all the fun products from Sale a Bration. I finally got my stamps and my new computer. I'm hoping to figure out pictures really soon. In the meantime, I'm doing a raffle box. I have a sheet with squares. Each square is $3. When the squares are full, I will draw 3 numbers. The first person will get $50 worth of product and a hostess set, the 2nd and 3rd numbers will get $50 in product. Each person will also be able to pick a SAB item as well. We have stamps, paper, brad and ribbon pack, a cute decor element, brights buttons, and in color cardstock.

Computer Down- Customer Service is not

Last night I shut my computer down and, sadly, it did not turn back on today. So I'm sharing a computer with the family. It does allow me to tell you what's going one and to check orders, take and place orders, and do my normal customer service. However, I cannot do pictures unless I can text them to you. I will do my best to help as needed until my pc is repaired. For now though, call and I'll try to walk you through it over the phone. If you're close and need to meet someplace, we can do that too. Stampin' Up! Website fixed

As you may have discovered, my Stampin' Up! website has been down. There was an issue with my ISP but that's been resolved. So I'll be able to upload my pictures and instructions again. Also my calendar will work again. For those who are wondering, I'm placing a workshop order on January 24th. That is next Tuesday and also the first day of Sale a Bration. Sale A Bration is our favorite time of year. Why? Because for every $50 we spend getting the things we love, we get to pick a free item from the special catalog. Business Cards- Part 2

OK, I've reviewed all of my emails and notes and have come up with what I hope to be the final draft. I weighed all the suggestions out and have used quite a few of them. Thank you all for your help. Here is the one that I've come up with now. The back side even has a space where I can add a stamp. If anyone sees anything I missed, let me know. I'm hoping to put the order in late Friday or Saturday and have them by the end of the month.

New Business Cards?

I'm looking at new business cards and I'm trying to see what has the most attractiveness, has room for me to add a small stamped image and gives out all the information someone needs without giving the burglars a map.

So I'll take comments on this one. I like the color and the design so I'll probably stay with that but I need some ideas about the actual wording. I'm so glad that Stampin' Up! offers sentiment stamps. I eat my shoes all the time with my words.

Packed For Everything

OK, I got some of you confused. Yes, there are 4 stamps in the 'Packed for Everything' bundle. I should have said 'bundle' to begin with. That would have eliminated most of the questions. In the new Occasions mini, there are 4 single stamps. Each stamp has several images on it based on the theme. Packed for birthday has things you might find at a birthday party and such. Packed for Dad has things a dad may use: watch, grill tools, remote, pocket knife, etc. Packed for Mom has mom things: purse, makeup, jewelry, shoes, etc. Packed for Baby has baby things: teddy bear, bib, bottle, ABC blocks, etc. Each stamp costs $9.95. You can buy just the one you like and will use the most.

You can also choose to buy more than one. You can get all 4 in the bundle for $29.95. Which is why I said that if you buy 3, you get 4. It should have read; if you buy 3 then you should get the bundle and get all 4. Why have all 4? Glad you asked. Maybe mom is more of a handyman than a dressy gal. She might have a screwdriver, pocket knife or baseball cap on her card. Perhaps dad is the crafty one. He might like scissors. Maybe baby needs keys. Could be dad or mom's birthday. Keys as a hint for a birthday gift....or wishful thinking anyways. Think of the possibilities. I plan on it. New cards to be posted in the next few posts.

Packed For Birthday

The 2012 Occasions Mini has lots of fun new stamps. One of the new sets has 4 stamps in it. You can buy them one at a time or two. If you want three, then you get the whole set. The set price is equal to buy 3, get one free. That's an offer you shouldn't pass up. Each stamp is called 'Packed for.... and there's birthday, Mom, Dad, and Baby. I have the whole set but today I'm just going to showcase 'Packed For Birthday'. The stamp has a wide variety of things that you may see at a birthday and can be used quickly to stamp a fast card or it can be used to give a more detailed card or scrapbook element. The first image showcases the stamp and all the cool stuff on it: cake slice, party hat, pinata, streamers, candy, banner, etc. In figure 1, I selected an image from the stamp that I want to use instead of the whole stamp.

Figure 2 shows how the image looks all on its own.

In the following pictures (figures 4 and 5) I've added more images and also some color. I used our markers to color the banner and the pinata. I colored the grass with Old Olive and used Baja Breeze and Tangerine Tango for the pinata and banner.

After I got all the coloring in that I wanted, I asked my DD for a white crayon. She said, "Here you go, mom. I wasn't using this anyways". See, I knew it. I colored in the areas I wanted to keep white and also the areas I had colored and wanted to keep the colors. Then I sponged the whole thing with Baja Breeze. I used a paper towel to wipe down the card to remove excess ink for the crayon colored areas. This is how it turned out(Figure 6).

I used our mat pack and paper piercer to poke holes for brads. I used the pumpkin pie from the brights collection. Then I finished the card and stamped the inside. It's all ready to send to the next person on my birthday list.

Ways to use retired Designer Series Paper

Most of my local customers know that I hoard things. I have paper from when I started crafting, some of it's quite atrocious. It needed to go yet I cannot bear to throw away anything that can be used in another way or by someone else. It annoys my husband to no end. He would just rather throw it away. I have brads, buttons, eyelets, ribbon, twine, and beads. I still have Micro Beads. I have flower shaped eyelets. I have oval eyelets. I have eyelets and ribbon in colors that Stampin' Up! hasn't carried since the last color change. So I have Mauve Mist and Forest Foliage. So back to my point. I took retired DSP (Designer Series Paper) and used it to revamp a drawer in my kitchen. The drawer used to have nasty old shelf paper in it. Now it's lined with the retired DSP from last year's Sale-A- Bration. I measured the drawer, cut the paper to fit with a little bit of overlap, stuck it into the drawer with Dotto (a temporary adhesive that's so super easy to use), and covered it with clear contact paper. I used the Decor Element applicator to smooth out the bumps. It was quick and easy. It only took me about 15 minutes to put it all together. The longest steps were measuring and cutting. Since I used the Dotto it will come up easily when I'm ready to change. The clear contact paper makes it easy to wipe the drawer clean. It also protects the paper. I'm going to try this technique out in other areas. I have lots of drawers that need refreshing.

Take It To Heart- New Set

I really like the Occasions mini this year. There is so much that I want. As a demo, I do get a discount and that helps but I still have quite the list. For now I will just have to use what I have. That also is quite the list. Here is a card that I made this afternoon. So many ideas- so little time. I'll have to shut myself in to stamp. The background was stamped with one of the heart images in the set. I stamped it with Versamark on glossy white cardstock. Then I embossed it with clear embossing powder and sponged it with Real Red. The banner is also from the same set. The hearts are from the Red Glimmer paper. The sentiment is from Artistic Etchings. I really need to go make more cards now but I really wanted to show off this one. It'll be on my website with full material list.

Ready to rest.....and get ready for the next one

Well, the craft fair is over. It was a hit. I sold every last mustache so I'll have to make more for the next event on December 3rd. I sold notebook covers, tooth fairy tins, cards, retired stamps, coasters, and magnets. People signed up for classes and one person took home some info about becoming a demo. I would love to have someone new to share ideas with. It's always so much fun to take my idea and another person's idea and come up with a new one based on the two. Stampin' Up! has extended the Big Shot promotion until November 11th. If you sign up between now and the 11th, you get either a new Big Shot or $100 extra in merchandise of your choice. So if you already own the Big Shot, you can get some new dies, folders, embosslits, an alpha set or whatever. I'm here if you have questions. There are some answers on my website (link on left). If you only had a mustache.......

There are many styles. Lots of people love mustaches. Some of the world's and literary's famous and infamous men have sported a mustache. Who would Hercule Poirot be without his handlebar mustache? Imagine a poster of Einstein minus his. What about Burt Reynolds? No, he just wouldn't be the same without one. Stampin' Up! has jumped on the bandwagon of the recent fun with mustaches. They have a new stamp that came onto the scene with the new Idea Book & Catalog for 2011-2012. It's a single wood mount stamp and it's called 'Many Mustaches'. I've been having lots of fun with it. I've even made some for my craft fair. Everybody can have a mustache or at least one on paper. I'm looking forward to seeing people walking around the craft fair with their mustaches. I have black and brown this time. I might have to try some Real Red or Cajun Craze when it gets closer to March. Give me a call and I'll share other ideas with you.

Craft Fair Goodies

Tis the season.....for craft fairs. This year I'm doing Hannah's Hope again. It's a fundraising event for First Steps of NW Indiana and Children's Neurobiological Foundation. Both of these agencies help families and their children who have special needs. It's a good cause and I get to sell my handmade stamped items. This year I have Tooth Fairy tins. These are new to me. I made some before using the Matchbox die but I needed to use up these tins I've been hoarding. I think these are too cute, what do you think?

Club cards and Halloween

Every year, come Halloween, I'd like to make cards that use Stampin' Up!'s Halloween stamps but aren't Halloween cards. I CASE'd this one from Michelle Zindorf. I really love the ideas she has for sponging and coloring.
Anyone who knows me knows that I love "The Wizard of Oz". So this card was so much fun for me. I had fun with what's inside too. Each one has a different sentiment. I used the old favorite, "I just haven't been the same since that house fell on my sister." I also sent out a couple that said, "Missing You. Drop in anytime."

Build a Bear.....not just for the kids

When I first got my Build a Bear die for my Big Shot (exclusive through Stampin' Up!), I thought that I was going to have fun making cards for my daughter, my scouts and all the other little girls in my life. Then they started getting 'too old for Build a Bear'. So then I was wondering what to do with the die. Then it dawned on me..... Why does it have to be used as a little kid card? So I made a cheerleader and a jock complete with letter jacket. Then I used those as ends on a banner for a class reunion that I was a vendor at.

After that, I started using the bears instead of people images on cards. After all, they can say thank you as easily as Happy Bearthday (Birthday). Then I got this new stamp set, Not So Seriously. It's in the new catalog. I love it. It's sassy, snarky, and little bit twisted but oh, so much fun. So then I made the bear instead of the human lady....and here's how it turned out. The background paper is from the Paisley Petals DSP. Paper is still on sale through the end of August. Buy 3 packs, get the 4th FREE. See my website for more info. So get out that die and start using it for more and more fun!

Interlocking Gate Fold Card- Free Tutorial

I'm really enjoying this new card technique. I saw a card months ago that was an owl in a tree on Dawn Olchefsk's blog. I then took the idea and went with it and now love the idea of an interlocking card with a gate fold. Here's the full finished card, unopened so you can see the final look.

To make this card you just need to use your Big Shot and the Scallop Oval frame Bigz die. I cut the 2 pieces in 2 different colors so that I can stamp in the center. You don't have to use Very Vanilla or Whisper white. You can use anything you want. Here's the card partially open so you can see how it works.

After stamping my base, I scored it and folded the gate fold. Then I stamped my center piece and attached Dimensionals on one 1/2 of the oval, lined it up on one side of the gate and adhered it. Here's the oval and the opened card so you can see what I mean.

After the oval is attached. I then add dimensionals to one half of the scallop frame. I cut mine in half because of the size of the frame so they don't poke out. Nobody wants to see those from the front. They just want cute cards :) I then line up the side without the dimensionals around the oval so it matches exactly the way I want it to. Then I adhere the sticky side to the other side of the gate fold. Here is the frame open. You might be able to see the Dimensionals if you look closely. This technique is easy once you got the basics down.

Little Cards, Big Ideas

Have you ever just wanted a little card? I've been using these cute 3x3's. They're perfect for most occasions. Just tuck a little one into a gift bag, add it to the bouquet of flowers, tuck a note into your child's lunch, your sweetie's pocket, or include with your orders (no matter whether you are a Stampin' Up! demonstrator, a demo from another company, or just in a customer service oriented business). A little note goes a long way.

Cut your paper into 6 x 3 pieces. A sheet of 12 x 12 cardstock will make 8 bases. Remember to use a good quality cardstock like Stampin' Up! A strong foundation holds up better. Yes, some people will look at it and throw it away. Others will keep it until it falls apart. Wouldn't you want them to hold up if the recipient decides to keep it forever?

So back to the cards. I made these cute little flowers using that ring from the Blossom Bouquet Triple Layer Punch. I have tons of those things because I just LOVE the cute little blossom. So I've been trying things out to see how to use them. This idea was another one of those happy accidents that seem to happen to us crafty people.

For a more traditional stamped card that's great for tucking a note into a pocket, order, or lunch I made the second cards with the Tiny Teacup stamp. They have the Designer Series Paper Beyond the Garden on them as well. I sponged the edges for depth and then I added just a teeny rhinestone to the cup handle for a little bling. Cute!

Flowers anyone?

I saw these really cute Gerbera daisies made with the Daisy #2 Sizzix die we have. The tutorial I saw was a little more intense than I wanted. So I changed it up a bit. I didn't put stems on them and pop them into vases but I did put glitter on the center brad and made them into really cute magnets. I took the flowers I was sponging along with a finished magnet to a friend's house to work on. Her husband thought it was a real flower. I love when I can make paper flowers that look real. Maybe I will have to add stems and put some into vases. I would love to have a beautiful bouquet of flowers that last and last. Some of these are really fun looking and some look realistic. I'll be offering them at my craft fairs and on my Etsy in September. They'll make great teacher gifts too.

My New Favorite Link

I have found what I need the most. The Color Coach...online. Don't get me wrong, I love the Color Coach. It's easy to use. I can line up my cardstock and take it into my craft room and match up the colors with what I have. I use it at workshops so that others can see how great it is to have on hand. You go to the site and select your colors that you're already using and then select,'search'. Viola! It brings up a bunch of color combos using those colors. It's really an awesome tool to have. New In Colors

I'm really excited about the new In Colors from Stampin' Up! They will be available to everyone starting July 1st. The colors are: Calypso Coral(a little brighter than Cameo Coral) , Island Indigo (like a dark blue jean), Lucky Limeade (brighter than Kiwi Kiss, not a dark as Wild Wasabi), Pool Party (cross between Soft Sky and Cool Caribbean), and Wisteria Wonder (a lilac shade has returned). I'll post pictures very soon. My camera seems to have grown legs again.

We still have the In Colors we got last year. Stampin' Up!'s new policy is to have In Colors for 2 years and they will overlap each other. So while we are falling in love with the new In Colors, we will still have the others to use. So we have 2010-2012 colors and we have 2011-2013 colors to order come July 1st.

The retiring stamps and accessories list came out today. It's your last chance to get that stamp set you always wanted, the paper you love and can't live without, or the thing you needed to finish off the page you've been working on. A few of my favorites are going and I will miss being able to use them at workshops but they will still be here to use on Open Stamp/Scrap days. Getting My Sheep Together

So back to the drawing board. I used to have a camera that "ate" batteries. Now I have a computer that "eats" memory cards. So I took this picture with my phone and emailed myself so I could share it with you.

Last week another demo, Bethany Drew, shared the card she made after seeing the idea on SplitCoastStampers. I took the idea and changed it around a bit and came up with this adorable sheep. It's a 3x3 card for Easter and we will be making these and other cute things at my Easter class on April 15th and 16th. See my Stampin' Up! website for all the info.

These sheep are adorable. I used the scallop circle punch to make the body and the fluff for the top of the head. The face? Look closely. What is it? It's our new favorite player..... the Owl Punch! I ran the wool through the Big Shot with a texture plate to give the wool some dimension and I sponged it with Crumb Cake ink for that slightly dirty look that sheep have. The background paper is Springtime Vintage (# 121782 $9.95 preferred- meaning ordered from me or from my website) from the Occasions Mini. Remember the Occasions Mini ends April 30,2011 so get what you want before it's gone. Last, but not least, the bow is actually one of the small butterflies for the Butterfly Embosslit die for the Big Shot.

RELIEF EFFORTS IN JAPAN
March 17, 2011
Like all of you, we are deeply saddened by the recent earthquake in Japan and Pacific tsunami, and our hearts go out to all those who were affected. On behalf of our demonstrators and customers, Stampin' Up! is making a donation to the American Red Cross' Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami Relief fund. If you feel so inclined and have the means to do so, we encourage each of you to make a donation to the relief organization of your choice.

While we always strive to make a difference, how we support relief efforts for natural disasters is decided on a case-by-case basis. In countries where Stampin' Up! has a presence, we look to our country managers to determine how we can best support our demonstrators, customers, and the local relief efforts. For example, during the flooding in Queensland, Australia in February, the country manager arranged to donate $2 AUD from the sale of every stamp set with a value of $30 AUD or more to the Premier's Disaster Relief Appeal. After the recent earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand, the country manager felt it was most important to support our demonstrators and customers directly, so we are waiving the registration fee to the Christchurch regional and turning the event into a fun day of crafting for both demonstrators and their guests. The company is also supporting demonstrator fundraising efforts related to the earthquake by donating free products.

In the case of Japan, because we do not operate in that country, we feel the most effective and efficient way to provide immediate support to those affected by this terrible tragedy is to give a monetary donation.

Birthday Cards

I've been using my cards, donating cards, and selling my cards. So when I needed some birthday cards and went looking through my stash, I was out. The Occasions Mini has several cute stamps for birthday cards, projects and gifts. So I just went with the theme. My stamp club made these cards at the February club. We used the Take a Spin (pg 10) set for the yellow card. We had some fun with the Game Spinner Hands. They're $3.95 and you get pieces to make 12 spinners. For the final touch, we ruffled our own ribbon. Lots of fun :)

The next card we made used the technique called Inlaid Embossing. It's super easy and the effect is amazing. I think it's my new favorite way to use the Big Shot. We also used the Create a Cupcake stamp and the new Build a Cupcake Punch(pg 22). Last but not least I added the new pompom trim in the Melon Mambo. It's also available in Daffodil Delight and Tangerine Tango (pg 35)

Our quick lesson today is on using the Game Spinner Hands. You get 12 per package. The book says that you put down the spinner, then the washer, and then the brad last. We tried a couple different ways. We finally opted for washer, then spinner and then brad. The real main thing we noted was that you open the brad just wide enough to hold the pieces in place. If you squeeze too hard, the spinner won't spin. I've included a picture so you can see the parts close-up.

You have 12 hours to move it. Normally you're just stuck with a sticker where it lands. You have to figure out a way to use it there or cover it up with something else. While that is a great way to change up your project you may not want to do it right then.

This pack contains the perfect elements to add some fun to your projects. The colors are vibrant and coordinate well with the paper and quick accents pack. This is awesome. I'm so glad that Stampin' Up! is offering so many options for Sale A Bration this year. This is the first year that they have also offered a Decor Element piece as well as stamps and paper. This is a 8 x 16 inch panel. It says "notes" on the top and has a curlyque line under that. You can put this on a wall, a door, a locker, etc. I plan to put mine on a board so I can hang it where I want and move it around as needed. You write on it with chalk and, just like a chalkboard, you can wipe it off and start over.
Bliss
This 5 piece stamp set is both modern and vintage. It has a butterfly that looks cut from a book because there's text on it, a flower, a bird, the word Bliss in fancy lettering, and a vintage accent piece. It's a great way to add great accents to any project. Simple yet elegant.

Cards for Heroes- Thank You

I want to thank everyone who came out to help me with the cards for our troops. The turnout was a little lower than I had expected but we got a lot of work done over the course of several days. I was able to sit and work closer with people than when we're in a larger group and I learned a few things about what you like about Stampin' Up! or me as a demo. I've decided to take what you've told me while we worked and make each of you something special in the next couple of weeks. I will post them here so that everyone can see. In the meantime, here are some pics of the table as we worked. I'm sure our heroes will enjoy using these cards as much as we enjoyed putting them together.

More and more cards

Well only 2 more days left in my Cards for Soldiers event. I've had a few people come and help put the cards together. I did a count last night and we have over 300 cards going out. All of the card fronts I got in swaps have been converted to full cards, most of the full cards that were made over the years and never sent out have been revamped. I just need to make sure that I have enough envelopes to match up with the cards. Friday and Saturday this week will be the last 2 days we're working on them. Friday and early Saturday the plan is to make sure that we have enough Birthday, Valentines, St Pat's, Mother's Day, etc. cards to go in each box.

I changed my blog to give it a fresh look. I've added several new elements and I plan to keep up with it. This will be much easier since I am moving to being a Full Time Stampin' Up! rep. So keep watching for new things to come in the next few months. I've added a button to get the Mojo Monday sketch. This is a new sketch once a week on a Monday, of course. It's nice to be able to rely on someone else's ideas once in a while. That way we all get to play. I've also added a place to sign up to follow my blog. Sign up and you'll know when I update. Cards for Soldiers

Starting this Sunday afternoon, we'll have get-togethers to transform my excess materials into cards for our troops. I have nearly 4 boxes of cards. These include card fronts and cards that were made with retired stamps. Bring your scissors, adhesives, cutters and ideas to my house Sunday at 2 pm. Our first project will be to divide and conquer. Well divide at least. The cards need to be separated into types and what needs to be done to them. For example: All full cards and all fronts. Then from the full cards the current and looks good and the outdated and needs a new look. Then we can separate into birthdays, thank yous, etc.

I'll brew a pitcher of tea and have a small snack. Feel free to bring a snack to share as well.

Stamp Club December

We finally had our December stamp club meeting. Last week we had the blizzard and our roads were closed for emergency travel only. So we met this week with a smaller group. Whenever members can't make it, we make their cards for them so they can have them.

This month's cards included penguins made from the Owl punch and a simple elegant card from one of my favorite stamp sets, Lovely as a Tree.

Each month we get together to make cards, chat, eat, and have a good time. We learn new techniques and take the cards and projects home. We make a minimum purchase of supplies for ourselves and we take turns as hostess. When it's your turn as hostess, you bring a snack to share and you get to go shopping for the hostess rewards. It's perfect if you don't have friends who are crafty or even if you do.

We are starting another round in January- June and we have room for 1 or 2. If this sounds like something you'd like, let me know so I can get you started. Find my contact info on the side of this page.

The Weather Outside.....

....is frightful. I'd love to show you some pictures but, as it turns out, I cannot. It seems that one of my memory cards has a teeny chip out of its plastic and it's stuck in the back of my card reader. So, even though I took pictures of the weather and of this lovely technique I'm about to share, I cannot share the pictures today. My hubby has said he will come home from work tomorrow and take it apart so I can use it again. In the meantime, I will try to describe this technique in a way so that you can try it out and get your own pictures.

I'm not sure what to call this technique. Maybe double inking. Maybe marker plus. Maybe one of you will come up with a good name. Now we've done several techniques with markers recently. We've selected only a portion of the stamp and have inked it with marker. We've 'thumped', we've edged, and we've dotted. Today we are enhancing. Maybe that's the name.....Marker Enhancing.

To do this pick a stamp with both bold and fine lines. I used the larger snowflake with the curly lines from 'Snow Swirled' on page 40 of the 2010-2011 Idea Book and Catalog (the IBC). It's $24.95 and is only available in Wood Mount. #111690

I inked it first in Bashful Blue and then I used the Night of Navy marker to highlight the dots on the edges and the star in the center. I stamped it on Whisper White (WW) and it was beautiful. Then I added a few dots of our Tombo multi glue and added some Dazzling Diamonds glitter. I added some ribbon and mounted it on a Night of Navy background and onto WW again.

Just wanted to show off the cards we made at our stamp club this month. Our hostess this month is not a big fan of Halloween so I wanted to showcase how you can turn a stamp set that you usually use for one thing into something else. Like Halloween stamps. This month we used Halloween Hoot (# 111582- $23.95 Wood Mount Only) for the Free Kisses card and Wicked Cool (# 118738 $19.95- Wood Mount) (#120600 $14.95 Clear Mount) for the cauldron card.

Other elements used for the cards. Black ink is Stazon. I love to use it because the ink doesn't smear when coloring. Plus it dries fast. It's also permanent on non-porous surfaces so it's great to use to put your name on your cake pans and such so they come home to you.

*The 'Free Kisses' card uses the sponging technique. Sponging is a great way to add texture without a lot of tools. It's a great technique for beginners but also great for seasoned stampers. The moon is colored with the brush tip of our wonderful double-tipped markers. Then Crystal Effects was added to add dimension and shine.

*The 'Cauldron' card has a couple of different punches used. The orange edging is done with the scallop trim border (#118402 $15.95). The paper ribbon is made with the new Dotted scallop ribbon border (#119275 $15.95) in More Mustard.

Now that my job for the US Census has come to an end I will have more time on my hands. Time to update my blog, play with the new stuff that I've gotten, and prepare for my upcoming classes, clubs, workshops and craft fairs. Be on the lookout for lots of changes coming soon. Mr Brown (the UPS guy) brought me fun stuff on Friday. It's all from the new holiday mini. I can't wait to sit down and play with it all. As you know, the Punch Caddy is listed in the new Idea Book & Catalog (pg. 200) as “Coming soon.” We are disappointed to report, however, that due to serious production and quality issues with the manufacturer, we will not be able to offer the Punch Caddies at all. And because the manufacturer will likely not be able to meet our quality standards for the Punch Caddy in the future, we do not have any plans to offer a revised or equivalent product in its place.

As the situation unfolded, we consulted with demonstrators to see what they thought and we received some comforting words from Mary Polcin. “I’d much rather know now that there is a problem than let them get into my customers’ hands,” Mary said. “I am very glad that Stampin’ Up! is dealing with this now rather than later.”

I agree with Mary. I'd much rather the caddies not be available than to have them fall apart after you spent good money on them. I hope SU will be able to resolve the issue soon. In the meantime, I guess we'll just have to keep storing them in drawers, shoeboxes and hanging shoe holders.

Also these items are not here yet but should be in soon.

You hear all the time about CASEing a card, page or just an idea. What does that mean exactly. Well the term CASE just means copy and share with everyone. So one person's idea get shared because that' what paper crafting is about. Sharing our passions. Stampin' Up!'s "Statement of the Heart" is exactly that.

'To love what we do and share what we love, as we help others enjoy creativity and worthwhile accomplishments . . . in this we make a difference!'

Sometimes I CASE someone's idea and run with it. The ideas people out there have are amazing. Sometimes I even CASE myself. April's Stamp Club made a cute butterfly card showcasing our Beautiful Wings Embosslit Die (118138-$11.95) and Sweet Treat Cups (116802- $2.95 for 12). The butterflies are made with Only Orange which is one of the colors that we are bidding a fond farewell to.

I took the card to work and one of the girls wanted me to make one for her Mom for Mother's Day only with blue butterflies. So I used Brilliant Blue (another one of our colors to bid a fond farewell to) and then stepped up the card a bit with some extra stamping. See how it's the same card with a little more? That's how you can CASE and show off your ideas as well.

So the next time you see someone's idea/s just take a note, a picture, or a quick drawing and go home and play. If you see something that you don't know how to duplicate, give me a call and we'll come up with something. That's my job. To help you bring out your own creativity. It's a great stress reliever and we all need that.

vs Wooden Stamps

I also love my wooden block stamps. The images are clear each time. Unlike the acrylics I've tried, they don't break down over time. The new clingy clear mount stamps from Stampin' Up! are also natural rubber so they won't break down either. Most of the wooden stamp sets from SU! are die cut so you don't need any special scissors although I still use my Craft and Rubber scissors to trim them a little closer for my personal taste. Once a stamp has been mounted, there is no worry about the image shifting or falling off the block. If you find that you have mounted the stamp incorrectly just give me a call and I'll show you how to fix that. Since the introduction of the clear mount stamps from SU! I have bought fewer wooden sets but I still love the quality of them. Wooden stamps have a better image when stamping off (using the same ink two or more times to achieve a lighter shade of the same ink)

Clear Mount vs.....

Some people ask me what I like about the clear mount stamps vs the wooden ones. I've tried the clear see-thru stamps before and while the idea is great, they lose their appeal because the images are not always good. So you'll understand why I was hesitant at first. I tried one then 2 and now I own like 10 sets that are clear mounts. The clear mounts have die cut images same as the wood. They have the same quality of rubber and give great image quality. They have a sticker you stick on the back of the foam that shows the image in addition to being the clingy stuff that holds on tight to the mounting block without falling off nor leaving sticky residue behind. The major difference is that the clear stamps fit into a much smaller space. The boxes are the same size as a DVD case so you can fit a lot on one of those storage cases in a corner of a small apartment or the corner of a huge craft room and use the remaining space to store stuff like your Big Shot and dies. The SU! acrylic mounting blocks are the best blocks I've ever owned. I've owed acrylic blocks before but they are flat and awkward to use. I like our acrylics better than the wooden ones even because the comfort grip is on all sides, not just 2. The blocks are the same sizes otherwise and fit comfortably in my hand and equally in my daughter's hand. Besides being great for stamping....they also make great magnifying lenses in a pinch.

Easter Treat Box

Well, spring is around the corner and this year so is Easter. I made these oh so cute Easter themed treat boxes to share. I will be teaching people how to make these at my Spring Themed class this month. The class is Saturday, March 27th at the South Haven library. Class starts at 1pm. The class fee is $10. I've been using the new Sweet Treat Cups in lots of places. Recently I made a matching bag and card for my friend's daughter's birthday. She loves Goldfish crackers and I wanted to make her something she'd really like. She loved it but refuses to eat the crackers. Kids are too funny.

I had a table at the Special Needs Resource fair this past Saturday. I gave out lots of minis, info and ideas. All the kids came by and made bookmarks to take home. Some of the adults made them as well. Several kids came by again to make more. It was a lot of fun to watch their faces glow when they were finished.

It reminded me that you don't have to have special skills to make something beautiful with Stampin' Up! products. I don’t know if you’ve heard or not, but we’re involved in some promotions to help the Haitians who have been devastated by the earthquake last week. In addition to donating portions of the proceeds from the sale of a certain stamp set depending on each market, Stampin’ Up! bought some supplies for 5,000 hygiene kits. A few of our vendors also donated supplies for the kits as well.

We invited our employees to help assemble the kits over the next few days, and apparently the response was so enthusiastic that they got all the kits assembled in one day! I felt badly when I found out—I was working from home today and planned on helping assemble the kits later this week.

But when I opened the pictures they sent me from the home office, I admit that I teared up a bit and my heart almost burst. My disappointment at not being able to work side by side with others in this good cause was offset by the tremendous sense of pride I felt to be associated with people who are so willing to help out in any way possible.

It’s only fitting that one of these pictures shows our own Stampin’ Up! president Dale Fillmore, because the idea for the kits was his. Like so many of our Stampin’ Up! employees, demonstrators, and customers, he was looking for a way to help that would truly be beneficial.

We are excited to get these kits shipped off as quickly as possible; we are working through an organization that is already recognized and involved in the relief efforts. And our thoughts and prayers are with the innocent people who have been so devastated by this terrible event.

On January 12, 2010 a magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck Haiti, leaving in its wake devastation so overwhelming that the Haitian people and their leaders can only look for help from the outside to cope. In the past, when terrorists attacked the Twin Towers, when a tsunami struck Indonesia, when a hurricane destroyed New Orleans, and when wildfires ravaged Australia, Stampin' Up! demonstrators stepped forward and showed their commitment to making a difference in the lives of others. This time is no different.

People are always asking me where I come up with ideas for cards. My answer? Everywhere! I went shopping with a friend the day before her surgery and we saw some really cute pillows. So we took pictures of them and I came home and made a card. We also took pictures of sweatshirts. She made cards from that idea. I see cards in framed art and cards make nice framed art too. Anywhere you see something...it can be a card.

Here's a picture of one of the pillows and the card I made from it. Now I need to order more crystal brads.

I'm really liking the new Sweet Treat Cups (item # 116802)that are in the Holiday Mini from Stampin' Up! They're 2 1/2 inch plastic half cups with adhesive attached. They're perfect for adding goodies to a card or a page. You'll find them on page 7 of the Holiday Mini. You get 12 of them (so lots of playtime) for just $2.95! The link to the mini is on the right hand side of my blog. We made a card with them this month at our Stamp Club. Ours has a bookmark inside so you can get the candy out without tearing up the card. So it's prefect to give away and then they can eat the candy, use the bookmark and still have the cute card to look at.

Addiction

When I first got my Big Shot, I cut out tons of the Top Note. It's perfect to make frames or bag toppers. Then I found myself totally in love with the Scalloped Envelope. It's the perfect size to tuck in a little note on the front of a card, put a small journaling note or even fold into a cute little box. Then I moved on to the large scallop circle, Box #2, and the pop-up die. All of these are my favorites. I can make more boxes, a dress, a tree, a ball, a sucker, a cute baby gift. Then along comes the Holiday Mini. It, of course, has new stamp sets for the holiday season. Then I find that there's a new die for my Big Shot....a Build a Bear. Also has clothes and more. So now I find myself addicted to dressing little paper bears and using them on all my crafts. Check out the new little cheerleader bear. Isn't she darling? Her pompom is from the Daisy #2 die. Be on the lookout for more bears in the upcoming week.

Regionals here I come

Today's the day. I leave for Regionals this afternoon. My swaps are done. OK, most of my swaps are done. I did cut some cs and such to make another swap when we get to the hotel. I couldn't decide what daisies and what centers to use so I made 3 kinds. I'm looking forward to hopping in the pool at the hotel tonight and going to the seminar tomorrow and seeing tons of new ideas. Can't wait to share them with all of you when I return. Saturday September 19 is my Open House. We'll be making a card with the Build a Bear dies. Plus lots of cute ideas using the products from the holiday mini. IN the meantime, I've been playing with the Decor Elements Definitely Decorative collections. I bought the rolls and ran then through the Big Shot using the Daisy #2 die and added them to my mailbox. Isn't it cute? It's right in front of my house and you can see it when you come by next time.

I can't believe it's September already. I posted a picture of some lovely mums I saw at the farmer's market. SO, no, those aren't mine. This year was not a great year for growing much of anything. I only got 2 batches of tomatoes from my plants this season. Oh well, it'll be better next year. I'm getting ready to head off to Regionals next week. I'll be bringing some swaps home to share with everyone. I'm taking the card we made at club with the Daisy #2 flowers and the glitter covered pop up glue dot, a few 3 D items made with the Big Shot and maybe one other card if I get cracking in the next day or so. We'll see. I'll post some pictures in the next day or so along with an idea for the Sweet Treat cups in the holiday mini.

We started a new session of Stamp Club for Monday evening. This month's hostess was Donna. These are the cards we made at club this month. The Daisy card uses the Big Shot die Daisy #2 and features a glitter center. I've been really liking the Medallion background stamp and I loved sharing it with the group too.

Horde No More Update

This Saturday is my Horde No More sale. You'll be able to find card kits, cut card stock and instructions from previously held classes, and scrap maps. I also have baggies of ribbon, single sheets of paper, 6x6 paper packs, eyelets, brads and other doodads. I have collected drawers, baskets, bags, and carrying cases full of stuff. Most of which I bought and never laid eyes on again. Cleaning my craft room has been like going shopping. I found lots of cool stuff that I want to use and some that I wonder what the heck I was thinking about when I bought it.

My home 10 am- 3pm Saturday August 1st. I will provide drinks for shoppers.

A couple cards for a swap

I'm not going to Stampin' Up!'s big convention this year. So I signed up for a swap with other demos that also cannot go. Just wanted to show off the ones I made. We may make 1 or both at a future Stamp Club or workshop. The Asian Artistry (hostess level 2) uses the reinker spread technique and features a cute ribbon technique that I really like....the tabbed ribbon. Sometimes all you need is a little piece to show it off. This is a great way to use all those little pieces you have left. The Animal Stories(#116716-$15.95) card features the wax paper resist technique. Instead of crumpling the wax paper, I ran it through the Big Shot(#113439 $99.95) using a Texturz plate from the Backgrounds I (#114512-$11.95)set

SU! decided to go back to the once per year Idea Book and Catalog. So, again, it runs from July 2009-June 2010. Book a workshop and see all the cool new stuff.

Adding more to Horde no More

Well, I'm back. I now have a whole boxful of goodies that I bought to scrap with. These aren't from Stampin' Up! but they too have been collected and never used. So go through your scrap stuff and see what you need. The only things I have that aren't going are adhesives.....I use those. Scrap stuff that going in the box: hardware (I have little heart, key and misc charms), clips, 3-D stickers, flat stickers, glitter stickers, rub ons, fibers, ribbon, punches, etc.

Stamp Club Projects- July

We had our Stamp Club meeting on Monday July 13th. Our club meets once a month (for 6 months) and we make 2 projects, swap 2 cards, eat, chat, learn new techniques and have a good time. We're looking for 1 more person to join the new session from August- January. We meet on the 2nd Monday of the month. 7 pm, my home. I'm also looking to start a daytime club starting in September or October. It would be during the day and include lunch. The day has not been chosen as of yet but we will work with what works for the members. If you are interested in either club, let me know ASAP.

Here are the cards we made at July club. I really love the dress card idea. I CASE'd it.....thanks to whoever designed it. I've been having a fine time making them for all occasions. I added the purse (made with the round tab punch) as a coodinating accent. Yes, you're seeing a pop tab in the belt. The bird card is made with the new Asian Artistry Hostess set and features the new Polka Dot Ribbon in Melon Mambo.

I'm already in love with this year's In Colors. Did you know that all the In Colors have a matching polka dot ribbon and markers? New Catalog

The new Stampin' Up! catalog is here. I'm so excited about the new things. I love so many things about this catalog. My Most favorite thing is that they have gone back to a once per year Idea Book and Catalog. I just didn't have the time to really fall in love with stamps sets when they came out with so many new ones all the time. I absolutely loooooove the new In Colors for 2009-2010. Here's the new colors and the new polka dotted ribbon. I have some so you'll have to come out and see how cute it is in person.

I made this card for my demo swap this month. I used the new level 3 hostess set 'The More the Merrier'. It has several of my favorite things (cupcakes, pumpkins, and snowmen). Colors in the card are: Kraft, Tempting Turquoise, Melon Mambo for cardstock. I also used Chocolate Chip ink and markers. Plus Pink Passion and Orchid Opulence as accents. Just a touch of the Melon Mambo polka dot ribbon for a finishing touch. Do you like the plain or the polka dot background best?

June Stamp Club

Here are the cards we made at our June Stamp Club. The rose card features the Reinker Spread technique. It is absolutely gorgeous and the sparkle from the Shimmery White cardstock is stunning. The hinge card was inspired by Sandy Hancock. It's not a total CASE, but it's close. I was looking for a patriotic card for club. Sandy shared her card with her downline group, which I'm a member of. Thanks Sandy!

Every month a group of us meets at my home where we make 2 projects, learn new techniques, eat, chat and place an order. We each bring 2 cards to swap. I love seeing the cards we all make. I love watching how the newer members evolve and seeing what ideas the more experienced stampers come up with. We take turns being the hostess and get the hostess credits for that workshop. The hostess brings the snacks and we all get to try each others' recipes (or shopping skills). At the end we all take home 2-4 cards and an occasional 3-D item per month, a chance at hostess and all the goodies we get, lots of new tasty recipes, plus products of our own choosing. We'll be starting a new session in August and have space for you. Contact me for details.

I'm behind again but here are the cards from May's Stamp Camp. We made 30 cards; 20 standard size and 10 gift cards from half a Simply Scrappin' kit. We used Sunshine Garden which is now retired. We made a large assortment of cards and won't need to buy or make any on the fly for awhile. I have all the samples and 2 full kits left. Lost and Found and New

Yeah! I found the camera. So now I can go back to taking pictures and posting. I will put some up later today or tommorow of the projects we'll be making at class this Saturday. We're starting a round of technique classes with a book of instructions so if any of you feel the need to make cards at 2 am (I have.) and you don't remember how we did something you can go to your book and look it up.

New! Stampin' Up! has Decor Elements stencils. Yes, stencils. You can use them to accent a card, stencil the wall, paint on outdoor furniture or any place else you've ever used a stencil. I used the Kind Thoughts Flourish small (# 116572) here on my wall. The stencils are in the Decor Element brochure. If you don't have one yet, ask and I'll get you one.

Spring Break

It's Spring Break here and my daughter is home from school for the week. I have been scrapping and trying new layouts for pages and cards. She is a great help. I show her my ideas and get what she thinks. Anything she proclaims as "super cute" gets saved and will be demo'd at a class, workshop or club. Anything she vetos gets reworked. Sometimes just a color change or a different stamp is all it takes. I would love to share pictures this week but I have mislaid the camera. So today I'll just have to share something that was photo'd before the camera went MIA. My daughter in bed with the giant bear and her favorite member of the Winnie the Pooh family, Piglet.

We're doing some cleaning this week and then I will show you the cards we made at stamp club this month. Hopefully I will find it before my technique class on Saturday. We're learning some of the many ways to use Versamark. I still have a few openings left. Hope you can join us.

Decor Elements

One of the things that I really love about Stampin' Up! and their products is that I can completely personalize everything. Just because a stamp looks one way in the book doesn't mean it can't be used in a completely different way on a card, page or even a wall. The same applies with our Decor Elements. The first one I got is Life is Good so I put that up on the wall in our Rec room which is also the room I hold classes in.

This room is also the same room we hang out with friends in. We've held birthday parties, had family and friends over for dinner and my husband and his friends hang out and game there too. When I saw the newest Decor Elements sets that includes the dragon, knight and fairy....I knew it was perfect for us.

When I got the set in and I showed it to my husband....the first thing he said was this line from Shrek. It's just after he rescues Fiona (the princess for those of you who don't know) and she realizes that he didn't kill the dragon first. She tells him that's what all the other knights did and he says "....right before they burst into flames" and they pan to a smoky outline on the wall of a knight. So that gave me an idea that I just had to run with.

First I added the fairy next to Life is Good

Then I added the dragon under my pictures

Using craft ink and one of the stamps from Priceless....I made flames.

Then I added the knight a little off kilter....since I'm sure one doesn't remain standing when you've been roasted by a dragon. I used a sponge and Close to Cocoa craft ink to make him look smoky. I'm not sure that SU had that in mind but it fits us very well and I'm sure that he will get lots of chuckles for some time.

Maybe your idea is a bit different than mine but that's what I mean. You can completely make anything all your own. SU even now carries vinyl to make your own element using the Big Shot and dies. You can combine both to create your own style. Mix them up with Definately Decorative stamps or anything you want. Need help developing your ideas? Give me a call and we can work on something together.

Want to try a Decor Element but are a little scared to add it to your wall? If you pre order one (up to 13 inches) I will put it on your wall or wall hanging at your workshop. They're addicting. I keep looking for new places to put them. I already have a space planned in a corner of my bedroom where I read and have been considering decorating the bathroom. I saw one on a front door that was out of the world and a friend of mine wants to use some on her mirror as a cheap alternative to etched glass. Besides that, she can change it when she's tired of it. You can't un-etch glass.

Bookmarks and Stamp Club

One of the things I really enjoy doing with my stamping is making bookmarks. I teach a kids class every summer and we make them, I go to assisted living centers and make them there too. They are easy and beautiful. Unlike a card, you can keep it for yourself and admire your work. Unlike a scrapbook page, you can take it with you. They make great quick and easy gifts too. I made these with one of my new favorite stamp sets. Petal Pizzazz (7 stamps, 2 step stamping, Definately Decorative...meaning perfect to stamp on walls, clothing and other fun stuff. Item #113417 $32.95, page 90 of the Spring/Summer 2009 IBC)

Want to make your own? Here's how:

First cut your paper. I like to use half a sheet of cardstock 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 then cut into 4 strips 4 1/4 x 2 1/8. You can stamp them before or after you cut.

Then I snip the top corners with the tag punch or the paper snips.

Using the Scallop Edge punch, add a decorative edge to the corners.

Punch a hole for the ribbon using the horizontal slot punch.

Thread the ribbon through the reverse side, snip and tie.

Add final images to bookmarks. I used images from Flight of the Butterfly (10 stamps. 2 step stamping, Item #111564 $31.95, page 98 of the Spring/Summer 2009 IBC)

Finished. Beautiful. Simple.

Behind Again

OK, so I've been neglecting my blog again. We've had some amazing snow and I've been stamping and scrapping. One day we so much snow that I had to clean my car off with a broom so I could get inside to the snow brush.

Some of the cards have found a new home and others are waiting for you to come over and make some to match.
This one is from the Love You Much set and bundle special from January. We made it at the January stamp club.

This is one made for a demo only swap. It's the level 2 hostess set Rustic Rooster. I had to get it since the heritage of Reister is German for ruler of the roost aka....they took care of the chickens. I will get a lot of use from this set.

This weekend I have a Stamp a Stack Plus which includes 3 each of 2 designs plus 2 3-D gift items. Here's one of the 3-D items we're making. I've seen several of these out there and had to CASE the idea. There's still room so let me know if you're interested. The class fee is $15.

I just had to share the cards we made this past weekend at my 2008 Holiday Stamp a Stack. If you missed it, I will be offering it once more this upcoming Sunday afternoon. Call me for info.

Saturday, after the class, one of my customers stayed and made her Season of Thanks wall hanging. She made it to match her living room and it's beautiful.

I played around with the Cardinal card after everyone went home on Sunday and came up with another version that I really liked. I added the poinsettas from Spotlight on Christmas and punched them with the 5 petal punch. I poked holes in the centers and added So Saffron brads. They are much prettier in person.

Spooky Jar revisited

Well, several people now have said that they can't see what's on the jar. So I took out all the candy and took a new picture.

No worries. I'll put the candy back in it. One of you will be lucky enough to get to take him, the jar and the candy home just in time for Halloween.

I really love the Upsy Daisy set. The bold flowers have a lot of potential. I'll be playing with that set for a long time. I've had the Haunting Halloween set for over a year and I still love it. The cauldron was even a pot of gold for this past year's St. Paddy's day cards.

Decor Elements

Look what I made last night! Isn't it gorgeous? This is the new Season of Thanks Decor Elements (available October 1st). I saved the curl accent for another project.

I really love the Decor Elements and how I can add elegant decorations to my home without spending a lot of money. I will be able to use this year after year.

I also love how I can add a statement or a decoration. to my wall for a low cost too. When the statement no longer applies or I just want something else, off it comes. Just wipe the down the wall to remove settled dust, let dry and your wall is all ready for the next design. This especially nice if you're using the Nursery Neccessities pieces. Just peel, wipe down and be ready for the next 'age of youth'.

Playing with Glitter

I've been happily trying out new ways to use glitter. I've been making my own glitter glue by mixing Crystal Effects, reinkers, and Dazzling Diamonds. I can then apply the mixture with a paintbrush or a toothpick depending on how much I need for the project. Here are some cards I've made using glitter.

Fresh Cuts

I got my order in yesterday and I've been playing with the Fresh Cuts stamp sets and the notes. I'm so glad that this is what I do. My stuff came in and I had a good excuse to play. I need samples for the weekend and stamp club. Several of my customers tease me about collecting scraps and using everything that I have. It's true....if a piece is big enough to stamp on, I keep it. I used the Fresh Cut notes to create a Thank You card that I reaaly like. Then I used the punch outs from the flower to create the candles on the birthday card.

I have a birthday party to attend this weekend. She really likes the things I make from SU so I used our rubons to create a personal candle holder.

Pinwheels, baskets, and magic wands

I tried several times to make one of those paper baskets but I gave up. For those of you who can.....you must have the patience of a saint.

After the basket fiasco, I tried my hand at a pinwheel card. I think it came out cute and made me feel better.

My daughter wanted me to show you all the wand I made her a few weeks back. We're on a buy nothing from China campaign. It's amazing how much stuff is made there. Almost everything you can buy at a dollar store comes from China. So when we came home, I made her a wand with my SU stuff. I used the 5 petal punch, the nice purple glitter we have, and attached the sides to a pencil with pop dots. So far it's held up and all her friends want one. Maybe they'll tell their Moms. I can only hope.

Headed to Regionals

I'm so excited to be heading for my first Stampin' Up! event. I've changed what I'm wearing 3 or 4 times. My stampin' bag has been packed and unpacked too. I will be taking several swaps with me so we'll have a ton of new ideas when I return. Stamp club members look out. I'm taking 2 card fronts, 1 set of 3x3's (cased the idea from Sandy Hancock....thanks Sandy!), and 2 different altered paperclip designs.

Start with the photo corner punch and a 12 x 12 piece of cardstock (figure 1)

Starting at the bottom left corner, line the punch face up and punch the first piece. (figure 2)

Line the side of the punch along the edge of the first punched piece. (figure 3)

Continue punching, making sure to line up the punch along the edge of the previous punch until the whole side is punched. (figure 4)

If you'd like a border strip, cut at 2.75 (figure 5)

You can also add a contrasting accent. (figure 6)
